I am a Canadian sculptor whose artistic journey began with a long-standing interest in drawing, painting, and art history.
My story
After retiring from my career in education, I began exploring sculpture more seriously. What started as a one-day workshop quickly became a true passion.
Since then, I’ve continued to develop my practice through study and hands-on experience, with a particular focus on figurative sculpture. I’ve trained in Canada, Italy, and France, learning from a number of accomplished artists including Melanie Furtado, Gabriele Vicari, Linda Lindsay, and David Hunwick. My studies have included anatomy, portraiture, and expressive figurative work.
Over the years, I’ve created more than thirty works in fired clay and bronze. Some of these have been exhibited in public art programs, selected for sculpture walks, and acquired by private collectors and institutions.
My work is grounded in observation, emotion, and a fascination with the human figure. I continue to explore new materials and techniques, always looking for ways to grow and evolve my practice.
Artists Statement
My husband of 41 years passed away suddenly near the end of COVID isolation. I needed to plan something that would help me find some joy again. I had taken a number of sculpting classes in Italy, France, and Canada, but had never had the opportunity to create a full-sized figure. I contacted Gabriele Vicari, a very accomplished figurative sculptor, and made plans to complete my series of sculptures ‘The Dreamers’ in his studio in Italy. I worked incredibly hard to finish the pieces, then returned to Canada to await the bronzes, which were shipped to Victoria.
